Spring is Sprung……….

At least, it is today  😀  Who knows what the weather will bring us tomorrow, but today the sun is shining, the birds are happy in their delightfully noisy way, doing the things birds do at this time of year; I’ve had the back door open all afternoon and it’s now gone 6pm and the local kids are still out playing in their not quite so welcome noisy way :\

I haven’t been around much since my last post, so I have a lot of catch up reading to do that I am hoping to get to later. My eldest has had a couple of days off work, one of which was her birthday, so we’ve kind of hung out together, which has been nice. We went out for a meal on her birthday – the first time I have been out like that for a very long time. My low mood prevented me most of the times I had the opportunity. You know the feeling? When you just want to hide away and everything seems too much effort?

Thankfully that, and the nervousness that comes with that, seems to have largely passed, and it was good to get out. I got ready with only a fleeting anxiety about being in a social situation. But really, I learned long ago that you do need to just “feel the fear – and do it anyway” 😀 as and when you can. I know it’s not always possible.

I have also had about a week of decent sleep 😀 😀 😀 – without pills, but not without assistance. I have been using my Gran’s favourite cure all LOL – a capful of brandy. I tend not to drink. If I have 2 alcoholic drinks a year, then something unusual must have happened, but I was getting desperate with the sleep situation. And just a single capful is doing the trick. I have been sleeping at least 6 hours, once or twice I managed 9, and waking up feeling rested and in the last couple of days I have been able to get up a lot more easily than usual. Usually I have to wait until my pain pills kick in a bit.

My gran recommended a capful of brandy for toothache, period pain, colds and flu – and sleeplessness. She lived to be 90. Probably because she slept well LOL. Bless her. She was wonderful 😀

And it’s got to be better than sleeping pills.

My energy levels have been much improved as a result of sleeping better, which means I have been more active so it’s all good 🙂

My Littlun and my son-in-law-to-be are home tomorrow. They are both exhauseted, and it seems like the only train available on Good Friday is the slow one that stops at every single station. I hope they remember to charge their mp3 players before they leave the hotel LOL

It’s Rory’s weigh in again tomorrow…….fingers crossed that she has lost a bit of weight, as we are due to take her for a check up this month.

Zoe and Mitch are happily eating raw once a day, although I still can’t get them to try chicken wings *sigh*. But I will perservere. It’s just a shame that Rory – who this change in eating is actually for – refuses to even attempt raw meat.  I have learned this last week tho that they won’t eat kidney. They have begun to lift the bits of kidney out the dish and drop them to one side LOL, but they LOVE heart, which is good as that’s where they get the taurine they need.

Next step is to give bigger chunks so they are actually tearing the meat apart with their teeth. It’s a gradual thing you have to take a step at a time, and I have been considering ordering some frozen chicks and mice. It’s what they would eat if we didn’t provide them with processed cat food, after all.

Yesterday…..something wonderful occured. My little Zoe came and lay on my knee for about an hour last night *squeeeee*. She is very affectionate, but on her terms – she comes and nuzzles my head when I am on the sofa, and will come for a head rub often, and when I am lying on my side in bed, she comes and lies on me then BUT she has never sat on my knee. She is just not a lap cat. She doesn’t like being picked up either. But last night, we were watching Gone Girl (great film, great book – I highly recommend both) and she came and nuzzled my head, so I gave her a fuss, and next thing I knew she was climbing onto my knee, and she settled down. I did have a fluffy blanket over me, so that might have helped encourage her, but I am not complaining. It was wonderful 😀

Tomorrow will be busy as the decorating of my Eldest’s room begins. Her other half is one of these people who can complete something in about half the time it takes most other people, because he just has so much energy. She only has a small room, but there’s a lot to do. Moving furniture, dismantling her old wardrobe so her new one can go in, moving shelves, wallpapering one wall, painting the others, and laying a carpet. The tiny upstairs hallway is getting new carpet too, so there are bookcases there to move too.

So I might not be around much for the next few days 😦

To add a bit of colour to today’s post – some pics of the furrier family members 😀

Mitch and Rory all tuckered out from playing.

  4. Nice to read that you get some good sleep. I use to avoid alcohol for sleeping because the quality of my sleep gets worse. Great it works for you. So positive post and your beauties look happy 😀

We had a beautiful couple of days here as well. Monkey and Violet were in and out quite a bit. Monkey got some raw food this week as well – not intentionally though! I was doing a very large salmon filet for hubby to put on the grill and had to cut a piece off for it to fit in my salmon basket. I ran to get the phone and came back to see her highness up on the counter nibbling on the leftover fish! Thankfully she only got a small chunk that came off and I was able to rescue the rest. Violet looked very dismayed that she couldn’t get any. They did get a few cooked scraps but the “brat cat” clearly preferred it raw!

Moongazer, your babies are beautiful! And I am so glad you got such good sleep. I wish I could try the brandy but with the wide array of meds I wouldn’t even risk a capful. I have an herbal mix that seems to be helping. I just wish I could get to sleep before 2 am.

Oh bless her LOL “brat cat”, bless her, probably thought of it as her kill. I remember Mitch having the same reaction over a raw pork chop he’d “caught” on the worktop one time.
I wish the herbs worked for me, to be honest. Its just different strokes for different folks 😀

Have you tried taking your herbal mix earlier? When I was taking the 5htp, I ended up taking it about 6 hrs before I wanted to sleep xx

True. They certainly didnt have teething gels or muscle relaxants. But to be honest, I prefer a natural remedy where possible 🙂
I remember my gran also used a ‘blue bag’ for either bee or wasp stings, that was normally used for brightening whites in the wash.
