Life’s Little Perplexities # 375

Speaking of marshmallows…….why is it that the white ones always melt into your hot chocolate faster than the pink ones? O_o

I have noticed this, and I find it perplexing. I alsso find myself a little strange at having noticed it enough to ponder about it LOL

I reckon there’s some kind of scientific explanation for it. I might have to ask the great god google so I can add the info into my enormous store of totally useless information that my brain likes to carry around 😀

I’ve noticed that too! I always figured the pink coloring is a non-biodegradable chemical that also acts as a preservative. If you discover the real reason, please share! I find these sorts of things interesting. 🙂

Moongazer, you make me smile! I often have little curiosities like this too. I have a friend who insisted she could tell the colours of smarties blindfolded! She did get the red and orange ones correct! It turns out that it isn’t exactly flavour, but that the colouring is stronger in those ones. I almost wished I hadn’t looked that one up! LOL.

The blue ones used to taste different too but now they don’t use artificial colours they aren’t the same

LOL You really would have to put claims like that to the test 🙂 I would have done! I read your comment out to the family, because I reckon the orange ones used to taste like orange and it sparked a great debate and had us all laughing. My Littlun became the ‘expert’ as she has eaten smarties most recently, and she says they all taste the same now the colouring is natural, which is a shame. But my friend reckoned it was mind over matter – my brain saw orange and so that’s what I tasted. (He can’t help it, he’s a scientist LOL)
I am glad I made you smile 🙂

I am glad to bring some joy to your family. It is a shame that the colourings have been changed, but as a cake decorator, I know how harmful they can be. I try to use natural ones whenever possible.

          You did 😀
          I agree, absolutely.
Lydia, do you have any photographs of your cakes? I would love to see them, and I know my Littlun would too, as she’s just starting to get into cake making and decorating. But also, have you heard of Choccywockydooda? I think that’s how you spell it, but I could be wrong. It’s a cake shop in Brighton, here in the UK and they make the most amazing cakes all decorated with a kind of ‘flexible’ chocolate that they developed. They have their own TV series. If you haven’t heard of them you really must look them up online, I’m sure you’ll appreciate them. Plus the owners are very eccentric 😀

As I get going on my “In Lydia’s Kitchen” blog, I will definitely show off some cake pictures. I am doing one right now based on “Tinkerbell and the Neverbeast” for a favourite 5-year-old! I haven’t heard of them but will definitely look them up. Sounds like something I would like!

“…having noticed it long enough to ponder it” this statement made me laugh; I do the same thing from time to time. Haven’t thought about the marshmallow thing yet tho-maybe we should do a study. Or, maybe not, somethings just need to remain a mystery LOL I always enjoy your posts! 🙂

Thank you 🙂 That’s good to hear 😀
I am also so very glad that other people have these same random ponderings as me LOL
I haven’t had chance to google about pink marshmallows yet, and maybe you’re right – life needs a little mystery in it 😀

You can always make me smile. I hadn’t pondered about it but now you mention it my brain is going ‘of course pink ones don’t melt as quick’ like its something I’ve always known lol. Maybe Google will know the truth…

LOL Now you’ve made me smile 😀
I made myself a hot choccy tonight when I came up to bed, and the marshmallows I grabbed out the bag turned out to be mostly white, and I actually stood there looking at them, thinking “Oh 😦 there’ll be non in there by the time I come to drink it” I felt quite saddened by it LOL
