WordPress Account Disabled

One has to question the ethics, and indeed morality of someone in power who also tries to silence the people who stand up for someone who has been wrongly accused of something.

Harsh Reality, the blog I linked to the other day in my awards post, has been suspended for “spamming”. WordPress’s interpretation of spamming is following too many blogs. Yes, you heard that correctly – following too many blogs.

People who have supported Jason (opinionated man – thats his username) have subsequently been flagged by wordpress – just for supporting him. Hmmmm……

Jason DOES NOT SPAM. In 2 years he has over 50,000 followers on his blog. He posts prolifically. He has guest bloggers, he reblogs. How he has achieved this is no secret. He writes about it. He puts in the hours.

And he inspires and encourages and supports other bloggers. He does this by following other blogs.

Yet apparently that is in breach of the ToS.
Anyone know what the limits are? No!! Which implies there arent any.

But whats more – Jason PAYS for his blog. IN ADVANCE!!

That is so frustrating! I mean until now I have mostly focused on producing content for my blog. Just recently I have thought about putting more time into commenting other blogs to get more readers and well, connect with other bloggers.

WordPress have themselves made pages encouraging you to interact, so this seems inconsistent. I start thinking of “jantelagen”. It’s like you can be a little popular, but not more popular than everyone else. I hope all of this is a mistake and we can soon be about our business getting more followers.

Unfortunately its not a mistake. I agree that wp are being extremely hypocritical here and I am stunned by what they have done. There are bloggers with more followers than Jason has, so why pick on him? He is very open about all aspects of his blog……and has been for 2 years!!
I really hope his story goes viral because I think thats the only way they’ll turn this decision around. WordPress will lose a lot, and bloggers even more if Jason’s blog disappears. He has helped so many people get going.

  2. I am not reblogging THIS article because I have already reblogged the original. I am making the rounds “liking” the reblogs as I find them.

THANKS for being a strong voice for fair play and REASONABLE policies consistent with what you claim to be up to!

Thou shalt conform and follow the rules !, Bollocks to that.

so if having to many followers gets you banned could we apply same arguement to politicians, lets start by banning all the followers of say the Tory party then take it from there……..

What they were trying to say was that Jason (and 2 others that I heard about) were following other blogs and clicking like on posts in a spam like fashion. They said later it was a rate of thousands an hr. Their bots picked it up, and their ability to like and follow was permenantly suspended.
      We made ALOT of noise.
The decision has now been overturned, Thank goodness. WordPress staff say they are looking for a way to stop it happening again. Surely just having a human look at the blog in question would be the answer?

How are you? Did you see the pics of Mitch the other day?
